*****Whispers, 200 Monmouth Ave. Spring Lake 974-9755. Chef Dan is back to rave reviews with a new owner. Small and beautiful dining room. Dressy, expensive, limited menu and the best place to impress her. BYOB.
*****Matisse Ocean Ave and 12th., Belmar on the boardwalk. Great ocean views. Good variety. New Continental Cuisine. 732-681-7680.
****Old Mill Inn Old Mill Rd. Spring Lake Hts. 449-1800 Expensive, a little more dressy. Good. Closed Mondays.

*****Avon Pavilion: On the boardwalk in Avon. A must when the weather is nice. This should be your first nights choice or eat there every night you are in town...I do. Great variety of choices and also the best place for dessert. BYOB, No reservations-unless you have the Avon Manor call for you, but they will give you a beeper 732-775-1043.
***Columns Restaurant: On the boardwalk in Avon. Good lunch and raw bar, nightlife for all ages.
**** La Nonna Piancones: 775-0906 Best Italian around. Stay away from the appetizers and salads - you simply will not have room. No Reservations. Liquor License.
****Ollie Klein's Fish Market and Waterside Café- River Rd. Belmar. Best Fish around. Paper plates and cups but super food and great water view. No credit cards. No reservations. BYOB. Closed Monday.
***Armadillo Crossing: 280-1880 Southwestern/Cajun. W + F Music, closed Sun. and Monday.

***Blue Marlin, 720 Main Street, Bradley Beach. Really something different. Try the curried goat and their home made ginger beer. No reservations.
***River Belle and River Queen: Dining on an old fashioned steamboat while you cruise the Manasquan River. Reservations required. Liquor License.
Sister's Café: Ever-changing eclectic menu. In the center of Spring Lake. No Reservations. BYOB.

***Pat's Tavern: Main St. and 7th in Belmar. Casual bar atmosphere, or go into their "more formal" dining area. Good for beef and the best potato soup in the World. You Must bring me back a pint. Tuesday-almost any entrée $10 in the off-season.
***Veggie Works, 817 Belmar Plaza, Belmar 280-1141. Looking for a change of pace? Their menu proves, even to meat lovers, that vegetarian cuisine is NOT boring. Try the veggie tacos.
